My work is predominately one of a kind made using a variety of techniques. and materials.
I am fundamentally inspired by the natural world combined with my own imagination.
In my jewellery work I use sterling silver, gold, precious or semi precious stones, pearls, also resin and other natural elements such as fossils, pebbles, coral.
I also make pieces for clients including up cycling existing jewellery , exploring how to re -work or re-imagine elements into a new design.
A brief bio.
Originally from Wales, and a graduate of the Birmingham School of Jewellery and Silversmithing in England U.K. I have maintained a studio practice as a professional contemporary jeweller in Toronto since the 1980s. I've consistently created original works for sale or by commission as well as exhibited and sold my work through galleries and juried or invitational exhibitions.
In 2003 I was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts.
In the last decade I have started to expand my work to include sculptural work, exploring form and material outside of the wearable.
Artist statement;
'I consider my formative years growing up in the natural beauty of Wales as an essential influence on the development of my aesthetic .Through out my work I aim to reflect a reverence for nature while remaining innovative and contemporary. I explores the qualities of my chosen material through form, detail, texture and layering, using a variety of techniques.
I find jewellery an intriguing form of personal expression, both for myself as the maker and for the individual who wears it. I hope that the pieces I make will be worn and personally imbued with value to become meaningful objects in someones life.
My sculptures are an extension of my exploration of material and form ,often using metal and resin and found objects they explore my ideas beyond the wearable'
